Dr. Nitin Kumar

Dr. Nitin Kumar serves as an Assistant Director (Research) at the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi. He also holds the position of editor for Indian Historical Review, a Sage journal published by ICHR. In addition to his editorial responsibilities, Dr. Kumar manages several special and individual research projects, coordinating with scholars and registered research institutions. He organizes quarterly meetings for the Research Project Committee and oversees the Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) and Seminar units of ICHR. He is also responsible for the Study cum Travel Grant (STG) provided by the institution. Furthermore, he organizes and conducts Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) exams, as well as interviews for Post-Doctoral Fellowships (PDF) and Senior Academic Fellowships (SAF). Dr. Kumar is an active member of several administrative committees within ICHR.

For his M.Phil. at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Dr. Kumar's research focused on Trade and Merchandise in the 17th Century Southern Coromandel. He completed his Ph.D. in 2012 with a dissertation titled Merchants, Weavers, Artisans & English Company Trade in Southern Coromandel, 1640-1740.

Dr. Kumar has also served as faculty for Medieval and Modern History at Ramjas College and Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, for five years. His academic interests include cultural transformations, art, architecture, and environmental studies during medieval and modern times. He has published numerous research papers in UGC-recognized journals on a wide range of topics, including colonialism, trade, agriculture, ecology, and the role of women in social movements.

Dr. Kumar has co-edited and co-authored books and chapters dealing with themes such as Indian reform efforts led by Orientalists and Anglicists, as well as historical debates surrounding the two-nation theory. He has been a speaker at numerous national seminars across India and has frequently served as chairperson and resource person at academic events.
