Management of alien aquatic invasive species: Strategic guidelines and policy in India

Summary: This article examines current policies and strategies for managing aquatic invasive species in India, highlighting the need for improvement. While risk assessment, biosecurity, and regulatory mechanisms are in place, the article argues that mitigating the negative impacts of invasive species should be central to management efforts. Despite existing guidelines and frameworks, aquatic invasions continue to threaten biodiversity and ecosystem services. The article calls for these issues to be prioritized in national agendas and urges the development of a comprehensive National Policy for the prevention and control of aquatic invasive species.
