Morbidities, practices, and seasonality: A study of women in low income households in Delhi

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between calorie intake, seasonality, and gravida, while addressing antenatal practices and morbidity among women in Delhi's slums. A survey of 400 women revealed widespread antenatal and postnatal malpractices, with significant discrepancies in the advice provided by medical practitioners and traditional birth attendants (TBAs), adversely affecting expectant mothers. The study highlights a strong connection between calorie intake, seasonality, morbidity, and mortality patterns among women and their children. Additionally, it sheds light on the under-explored perspectives of TBAs, who play a crucial role in homebirths, especially in low-income households in Delhi.
