Prof. Rekha Saxena
Prof. Rekha Saxena is a renowned scholar in political science, serving as the Head and Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Delhi. A distinguished expert on federalism, she is the Honorary Vice-Chairperson at the Centre for Multilevel Federalism, New Delhi, and Senior Advisor to the Forum of Federations, Ottawa. As the Founder and Convener of the Comparative Federalists Research Group, she has significantly contributed to research and discourse on comparative federalism.
She has authored or edited 15 books, including The Value of Comparative Federalism (Routledge, 2021) and Indian Politics: Constitutional Foundations and Institutional Functioning (Prentice-Hall, 2021). Her extensive research includes over 70 high-impact articles published in journals such as Economic and Political Weekly and Territory, Politics, and Governance. She served as the Lead Coordinator for the Leverhulme International Research Network, facilitating cross-national studies on Indian federalism.
With 28 years of teaching experience, Prof. Saxena has supervised 13 Ph.D. and 12 M.Phil. scholars, shaping future leaders in academia and policy. She has designed courses on federalism, electoral management, and comparative politics and has been a visiting faculty member at international institutions like the University of Lethbridge, Alberta.
Prof. Saxena has represented India at prestigious global platforms, including the United Nations Development Programme in Nepal, Forum of Federations workshops in Switzerland, and international conferences in Canada, Germany, and the UK. She is a recipient of multiple fellowships, including the Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Enrichment Award.
Her policy contributions include membership in national commissions such as the Task Force on Centre-State Relations under the Ministry of Home Affairs. She has facilitated curriculum development for the Election Commission of India and has served as a resource person for governmental training programs.
